The city of Turgutreis, which was previously named as Kara Toprak, was named after Turgut Reis, a distinguished commander of the Ottoman Navy, who was born there in 1485. Turgutreis is the second largest city in Alikarnassos peninsula. The city is a famous destination for vacation with sandy beaches, seaside restaurants and bars, suitable for families, couples or friends. D-Marin is the port of ferries and the city’s marina and passengers arrive there from the Greek islands such as Kos, Leros and Kalymnos. The main ferry connection between Turgutreis and Greece is Kos island.

Visit the huge market of Turgutreis which takes place every Saturday with fruits, spices, food, fabrics, clothes, shoes and handmade carpets. Go to the port area, watch the ships and the sailing vessels and enjoy your coffee at a cafeteria next to the sea. There you will find lots of restaurants serving fresh fish. Other remarkable sight are the all-green park of Sevket Sabanci close to the port of the city which is a seaside garden ideal for an afternoon or evening walk and the imposing turkish temple Merkem Cami.
A few miles away from the center of Turgutreis, you will find impressive beaches with clear waters. Most of them are fully organized with exceptional restaurants, cafes, bars such as GUNBATIMI, AKYARLAR and KARAINCIR HALK.
Turkish cuisine is full of spices, vegetables, meat and fish. You will try some of the most delicious delicacies of turkish traditional cuisine such as sarmadakia with vine leaves (yaprak dolma), iskender kebab with red sauce, salad with octapus and shrimps with garlic and butter.
